Following the conclusion of the National Development League AGM, Belle Vue Speedway is pleased to confirm our first two signings for the 2023 Cool Running Colts.

24-year-old Jack Smith returns for his fifth season at the National Speedway Stadium and retains the captain’s armband for the upcoming campaign.

He is joined by the 2019 250cc British Youth Champion Sam Hagon, who makes the move from Oxford to Manchester for the new season.

A popular choice with the fans, Smith brings a wealth of experience to the club, despite his young age, and played a pivotal role in the Colts’ 2017 NDL league victory.

Talented Hagon, meanwhile, has made several guest appearances for Belle Vue is previous years and is a true chip off the old block as the son of Martin Hagon and grandson of Alfred Hagon.

Belle Vue CEO Mark Lemon is pleased to get NDL team building off to such a strong start and says he is excited about how the team is shaping up.

He said: “We are delighted to retain the Colts team at Manchester’s National Speedway Stadium and I’m sure the fans will join us in our delight of bringing back Jack Smith to Belle Vue for 2023.

“He’s a dependable rider and has always led by example as our captain.

“Colts managers Steve Williams and Graham Goodwin and I felt he absolutely deserves to stay in that role. He always goes above and beyond for the rest of the team and he is a leader.

“Sam Hagon is quite a coup for the club, not only given his strong roots in the sport but the amount of natural talent he has on a Speedway bike is fantastic and he too is looking forward in joining us.

“He played a central role in Mildenhall’s 2021 league victory and we feel he has so much more to offer the sport and we’re very happy to have him on board for the new season.”

Belle Vue Speedway will also release details on our combined Premiership and NDL Season Ticket package for the 2023 season so please stay tuned to our social media channels.
