Battling Oldham lose out in London

An Oldham side missing seven or eight senior players, and including six who are in their first season at this level, put up a brave show in a 38-24 defeat at London Broncos.

The score would have been much closer if the Roughyeds hadn't gifted Broncos at least three tries, two of them scored by one of the Championship's most experienced and street-wise players in Aussie half-back Jarrod Sammut.

Four of Oldham's five outside backs -- full-back Callum Green, centres Joe Hartley and Max Roberts and left-wing Ben Holcroft -- were in their first season of Championship rugby and there were two more on the bench in James Barran and 19-year-old on-loan prop Jack Bibby.

Bibby and centre Hartley were on debut.

Bibby scored one of Oldham's four tries, while Green, who had an impressive game at full-back, converted all four.
