Bank Holiday Football Round-Up

Hyde United kept their place at the top of the Northern Premier League after a 1-1 draw away to Macclesfield.

Jack Redshaw's 6th goal of the season put The Tigers ahead on 15 minutes before John Rooney's curled effort levelled the scoring moments later.

The draw sees both sides tied on 14 points after six games, with Nick Spooner's men leading the way on goal difference.

Another side level on the same amount of points is Ashton United, who sit third in the table after a 2-1 win over FC United of Manchester.

Visitors Ashton took the lead after just seven minutes when James Hardy's effort was turned into his own net by FC's new shot stopper Ollie Battersby.

The hosts then drew level just minutes later when Jordan Preston curled the ball into the top left corner with the outside of his right boot.

Robins forward James Hardy was then involved again just after the half-hour mark, laying the ball off for wing-back Dan Cowan who rifled the ball home to seal the win for Steve Cunningham's side.

Elsewhere, at the Tameside Stadium, Curzon Ashton played out a goalless draw with Darlington.

The point sees Craig Mahon's side sit fourth in the National League North table after five games.

In the Northern Premier League West, Stalybridge Celtic slumped to a 2-1 defeat at home to Trafford.

The visitors drew first blood on 12 minutes after Celtic goalkeeper Charlie Monks parried a shot straight to the feet of Isaac Noble, who was there to pounce and turn in the rebound.

Another defensive error then left former Celtic forward Rio Clegg an open goal to tap the ball into and double his side's lead.

A late penalty from Liam Tongue would only act as a consolation, with the away side taking all three points.

Elsewhere Mossley rescued a late point away to nearby Avro.

The Lilywhites took the lead early in the second half with Eric Yahaya heading in from a corner, only for David Fish's men to be pegged back minutes later by a strike from Kyle Hawley.

The Ro then completed the turnaround, with Liam Ellis slotting the ball home to put the hosts ahead.

But it was Mossley's Reece Webb-Foster who had the final say, rifling the ball home on the half volley to draw his side level ten minutes from time.

In the NWCFL Premier, Glossop North End suffered their fourth defeat in as many games after with a 2-0 loss at home to Charnock Richard.

Goals from Nathan Nickeas and Jacob Ridings sealed the victory, which sees The Hillmen drop into the relegation zone.

In the NWCFL First Division North, Droylsden slipped down to fifth after dropping points away to Daisy Hill.

The Bloods went ahead late in the first half through Joel Ankers, but a late free kick from Kaiden Barlow meant Dave Pace's side had to settle for a point.

Finally in the NWCFL First Division South, New Mills moved up to third in the table with a 1-0 win away to Cammell Laird, thanks to a late goal from Will Shawcross.
