Avro F.C tell the stories of their behind-the-scenes team during National Volunteers Week

An area football club celebrated National Volunteers Week by telling the stories of several people who have given up their time for them.

The initiative highlights the important work that volunteers play in the community and Avro FC publicly recognised the efforts of several of its people.

"We are very lucky to have had so many people past and present volunteer with us," said a spokesman from Avro Football Club.

"Volunteers are the lifeblood of non-league football and an important element of the club here at Avro."

The club did a series of posts on social media and articles on their website about individuals who have given back to the community facility.

Among the stories highlighted were a pair of former university students who helped the club's media section over the last few seasons.

Both Tyler O'Donovan and Mason Gale said they enjoyed their time at Avro FC immensely.

"There was never one day I woke up annoyed at the fact I’ve got to come to Avro, it was the most enjoyable time," said Mason.

“Without these experiences at Avro, I wouldn’t be doing what I am doing now," added Tyler who now works for a digital media company.

Former club vice-president Malc Todd who has volunteered for years at the club from being the team's kitman to helping visitors with parking was also mentioned.

Another inspiration cited was the story of 20-year-old Louis Roberts who started as a player with the club at the age of four.

He now coaches several youth teams and said he loves working with the children of the club.

“Volunteering as a coach is now my favourite thing to do,” said Louis.

“I now coach every night of the week."

His father Wes who has also coached at Avro encouraged Louis into the role and since then he hasn't looked back.

John Brereton started volunteering at the club after he retired.

He now helps out in the club's hospitality section after previously doing a similiar role at Manchester City Football Club.

John said he enjoys the social aspect of volunteering.

“Nothing is too much trouble for John,” said the club spokesman.

"We appreciate all of our volunteers and we are always looking for more people who want to be a part of the Avro team."

They added that if anyone is interested in volunteering to contact the club directly on HR@Avrofc.co.uk
