Ashton United fans take on walk to Matlock

A group of Ashton United fans will be braving the 40-mile walk from Hurst Cross to the Gladiators’ Proctor Cars Stadium in Derbyshire ahead of their fixture away to Matlock Town this weekend.

Seven fans will be taking on the challenge to help raise money for Ashton United in the Community (AUITC).

The walk will begin in the early hours of Friday morning, and the group hopes to complete 30 of the 40 miles before getting some much-needed rest on Friday night and completing the remaining 10 miles on Saturday morning, where they will be joined by 16 more fans.

It is hoped that the group's efforts can raise £1000 for AUITC, and they are already halfway to meeting this target with the current total standing at just under £600.

This sum will help the organisation to develop further, and build on the fantastic initiatives that they have already set up within the community.

One of their standout commitments to the local community was when members of the organisation helped to facilitate the annual Christmas Toy Appeal at Tameside Hospital, to help put a smile on the faces of underprivileged children during the festive period.

Supporters will be hoping for a similar result to the one played out earlier this season, when the Robins defeated Matlock by five goals to nil at Hurst Cross.

Steve Cunningham’s men currently sit just outside the playoff places in the NPL Premier Division, with just two months of the season left to play, and they will be hoping to start turning draws into wins if they are to keep their promotion dreams alive.
