Ashton has a new martial arts centre

NEW VENTURE: Instructors Jordan, Mark, Lucy and Simon.

A full-time martial arts centre has opened in Ashton.

Marksman Martial Arts, on Berkeley Street near Ikea, has been opened by Tameside’s Mark Wood who holds an 8th Dan in the Japanese art of ju-jutsu.

Mark teaches ju-jutsu and kickboxing to adults and children at the centre.

He also teaches special sessions in the traditional Japanese weapons arts, including the Japanese sword (Batto or Iaido) and Okinawan weapons (Kobudo).

One of the assistant instructors at the centre, Jordan Mitchell, recently returned from training in Japan where he is soon to return for a grading in the Japanese sword.

There are also karate classes at the centre taught by 6th Dan Simon Keegan, who lives in Hyde, and who is the head of the Shobukan Karate Organisation and chief instructor of the Bushinkai Academy.

TRAINING: Ju-jutsu students in action.

Simon is recognised as a teacher of the style in Okinawa and Japan.

Mark said: “Marksman is a martial arts centre like no other.

“It’s a traditional dojo where students of all ages can learn the ways of karate, ju-jutsu and classical weapons in a safe professional environment.

“We have a team of male and female instructors who are there to help coach students whether they are a complete beginner or already experienced in the martial arts.

“We are proud to open this new centre in Ashton as I’ve taught in Tameside for many years and we have always been very much a part of the community.”

The Marksman Dojo is fully equipped and matted for safety and has a comfortable reception area where parents are welcome to watch their children train. For information contact Mark on 07960 803 873.
