As part of Knife Crime Awareness week, Samson Boxing Gym in Ashton-under-Lyne hosted a knife crime awareness session last month.
The session was delivered by the gym’s owner Samson Ogbuehi, local community activist Atta Ul-Rasool and sergeant Rob Froggatt, neighbourhood sergeant for Ashton Town Centre, Ashton Hurst and Ashton Waterloo.
Following the event, Samson told The Reporter: “It was an absolute honour to host this session and raise awareness on knife crime to the local fighters in my gym.
“I would like to say a huge thank you to Atta Ul-Rasool for making this happen, he connected myself with GMP and delivered this session.
“Sergeant Rob Froggatt was amazing, he joined in the session, and this enabled the young fighters to connect with their local police officer and build a friendship.
“This broke down barriers and enabled the young fighters to learn about their local community, local police and most importantly, knife crime.”
Local community activist Atta Ul-Rasool added: “It was a pleasure to have worked with Samson Boxing Gym and Sergeant Froggatt on this collaborative project.
“The session went really well, and it was great to connect with so many local teenage boys and girls.
“This was the first of many events and I look forward to working in partnership with Samson Boxing Gym and GMP on such projects in the future.”
Sergeant Rob Froggatt commented: “Samson and the boxers were all amazing and very welcoming, they certainly put me through my paces in the hour-long boxing class.
“I took the opportunity to chat and engage with the group which was great with lots of questions being asked about local policing in the community.”
