Ashton Black Knights clinch John Barrow Trophy

Ashton Cricket Club clinched a comfortable 72-run win against Adlington to lift the John Barrow Trophy on Sunday, August 18.

The Tameside team went out to bat first and posted a decent target of 218 runs. They then went out all guns blazing and bowled out their opponents for just 146 runs to grab the win.

V Chathuranga led the way for Ashton with the bat, scoring 68 runs in just 35 balls. His fiery inning had 9 fours and 4 sixes, which was a great joy to watch for all the fans. He finished the tournament as the highest run-scorer, scoring 250 runs in just 4 innings at a strike rate of 176.

Defending a target of 218 runs, Ashton started off great. An early wicket from the star man V Chathuranga to dismiss R Quyyum meant that the Tameside team were in control of the game. The fiery batsman added to his tally of wickets by then taking the wicket of C Hicklin. Om Trivedi starred for Ashton with the ball as he ripped through Adlington’s batting. He grabbed 5 wickets and gave away just 26 runs in 8 overs.

Bradley Wilshaw-Philips also had a great spell as he scalped 3 wickets to end the tournament with 10 wickets. It was an overall good day for the bowlers, but Ashton’s stacked bowling lineup stood out and helped them clinch the trophy.
