Following the success of last year’s event, Aldwinians RUFC are once again hosting their annual ladies rugby tournament.
The event, which takes place on Saturday, June 14 at Audenshaw Park (M34 5SN), will bring together six women’s rugby teams from across the country- Wharfedale, Ponteland, Didsbury Toc H, Congleton, Ashbourne and Aldwinians.
The six will face off against each other in a day full of competitive matches, community spirit and fundraising.
The day will be also an opportunity to raise money for a fantastic cause, with donations being taken for ‘Emily’s Legacy’, a page set up to raise funds and awareness of the effects of baby loss.
Following the loss of their baby girl Emily back in 2021, Rachael and Stephen Marrow - who both coach and play at Aldwinians - set the page up in her honour.
Through various challenges, including a 196-mile bike ride last year, the pair have raised over £15,000 for charity.
Ahead of the upcoming ladies tournament, Rachael told The Reporter:
“The Ladies Rugby Tournament, sponsored by Emily’s Legacy, brings together two things close to our hearts – rugby and raising awareness for baby loss.
“Emily’s Legacy was set up by myself and my husband, after the heart-breaking loss of our daughter, Emily.
“Through the tournament, we honour her memory and support baby loss charities doing vital work – from early miscarriage to neonatal loss.
“It’s not just about raising funds – it’s also about breaking the taboo, helping to make it a little easier for people to talk, and showing families who’ve experienced loss that they’re not alone.
“At the same time, it’s a fantastic day out, celebrating the energy, talent and community of women’s rugby. A brilliant atmosphere, a great cause, and a sport we love.”
The tournament gets underway from 12pm, with all spectators welcome.
