Young people invited to join acting academy during October half-term

The above production is set to take place at Chadderton Town Hall.

Budding young actors are being encouraged to join the Sarah Byrne Acting Academy thanks to funding secured for October half-term.

Sarah Byrne Acting Academy (SBAA), supported by Applauz CIC, will now deliver free acting for TV & Film programme this half-term, giving children across Oldham not only the chance to try performing arts but to join SBM Agency.

The news follows a successful summer of Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) provision, delivered in partnership with Oldham Council, which welcomed around 40 children a day to workshops culminating in a showcase performance for parents on the final Friday.

Building on that success, SBAA and Applauz CIC will run a dedicated workshop at Positive Steps in Oldham, running from Monday 26 to Thursday, October 29.

The sessions are open to all children from Oldham postcodes who receive free school meals, offering a first taste of acting for TV in a professional, supportive environment.

For many participants, the workshops provide a rare introduction to the performing arts industry — an experience that is often out of reach for children without access to private drama classes or agency connections.

The academy has a proven track record of nurturing young talent: current students include Harley Hamilton (Emmerdale), Erin Hall (High Hoops), Abbie Ashworth (Myles Smith & Stephen Graham Music Video) and Phoebe Weston (Werewolf) and multiple adverts on TV.

Sue Burns, Co-director of Applauz CIC, said: “Sarah and I were absolutely thrilled with the take-up for the summer programme. The feedback from parents was lovely, and every single child threw themselves into the workshops — they were engaged, curious, and clearly loved every minute. Holding their interest like that is exactly what we set out to do, and it’s what makes us so excited to bring this opportunity to even more children in October.”

The October half-term programme forms part of Applauz CIC's ongoing commitment to widening access to performing arts education for children and young people across Oldham.
