Young artist lucky winner of flag competition

A budding artist has been selected as the lucky winner of house builder Bellway’s design a flag competition.

Florence Tan, a pupil from East Crompton St George’s Primary School, Shaw, entered the exciting drawing competition to design an eye-catching flag for display at Bellway’s new residential development on Old Brook View on Linney Lane.

The nine-year-old's entry caught the eye of the judges who loved her drawing of bricks being laid at the new development along with a stunning house on a hill behind.

The bold, bright colours translated well onto the flag, and she pipped all others to the post to win a £75 voucher for Cockfields Farm.

Along with her voucher, Florence’s design has been made up into a large flag which is now on display outside the entrance to the development in Shaw.

Before the flag was installed, Bellway’s assistant site manager, Jack Fider and sales manager, Lynne Duxbury joined head of school, Mrs Amanda Robinson, to surprise Florence by presenting her with the flag at the school assembly.

Mrs Robinson said: “We are so proud of Florence for taking part in the Bellway competition and pleased that her wonderful drawing has been chosen as the winner.  It was lovely to reveal the flag in assembly and for the whole school to give her a cheer and be equally as proud of her achievement.”

Sales director at Bellway Manchester, Grace Yarlett, added: “It was hard to choose an overall winner, but Florence’s entry stood out for us as it was so eye-catching. It is great to have it up on the flagpole for all to see.”
