Police are appealing for further information following a stabbing in which a woman has been left in a critical condition in hospital.
Officers responded to an incident on Greenwood Street, Oldham, last night, following reports of an assault at around 10:40pm where officers located a woman aged in her 20s with serious injuries, consistent with a stabbing.
She is currently in hospital being treated and remains in critical condition. No arrests have been made at this time.
Chief Inspector Ian Partington from Oldham district said: "This was a shocking incident of violence, and our thoughts remain with the victim at this incredibly difficult time.
"I would like to reassure the community that incidents of this nature are taken extremely seriously and our officers are currently exhausting all lines of enquiry to locate the suspect.
"We understand this is a concerning incident, and we have extra patrols in the area following this incident. I encourage anyone with concerns to please speak with our officers who are there to support.
"A scene remains in place and our officers have worked through the night to conduct their investigation.
“I urge anyone who may have witnessed this incident or has dashcam, CCTV or mobile phone from the area at the time to please report to us."
