Oldham Athletic have appointed David Wheater as the club's first team captain for the 2019/20 campaign.
Wheater joined the club over summer having spent eight years with Bolton Wanderers, where he made over 200 appearances for the Trotters.
The 32-year-old was signed to provide some much-needed stability in the Oldham defence, and he has repaid the faith with some exceptional performances and a match-winning goal at Cambridge United on Saturday.
On being appointed captain, Wheather said: "It's an honour to be given the captaincy and as a senior professional I'll continue to give my all to the club and help my teammates as I have done since I joined."
Oldham return to action in League Two on Saturday with a home game against Colchester United.
