Newly formed Legends Volleyball Club in Oldham has secured Polish Village Bakery as main sponsor – and welcomed an England international to its elite team.

The Oldham-based club was established at the end of 2024, and has also launched volleyball training for youth players.

A series of new elite players have joined the squad for the new 25/26 season, including England international Ben Lucas, who made his debut in the team’s first match of the national Shield Cup.

The 24-year-old is thought to be one of the most talented young athletes of his generation and represented England in the Volleyball Five Nations Championships earlier this year, having played elite volleyball in Denmark for the past two years.

Its newest signing has also just been revealed as Mateusz Sacharewicz - a big name in professional volleyball, who is a Polish Champion and Polish Cup winner. He is club ambassador of the Legends.

Meanwhile, Polish Village Bakery has joined as sponsor and is supporting the work the Legends are doing to raise the profile of the sport in the local community and across the region.

Its team has made a strong start to its first season in the Greater Manchester league and in the National Shield. Player and vice chair of the Legends Volleyball, Rafał Lojewski, said: “We’re a new name in UK volleyball and it’s going to be an exciting season – competing here in Manchester and nationally. Our aim is to win the Manchester league and compete in the national league next year.

“It’s great to have secured Polish Village Bakery as our new sponsor - supporting our community and youth team initiatives and helping us grow the sport at grassroots level. A big part of what we do is focused on giving young people opportunities to learn and enjoy volleyball, develop their skills, and build confidence both on and off the court.”

Grzegorz Gwizdz at Polish Village Bakery, which is headquartered in Manchester and sells traditional sourdough and high-protein breads across the UK, said: “Volleyball is one of the most popular sports in Poland – and as a Manchester-based business we were keen to get involved and show our support for the great work the Legends are doing to raise the profile here in the UK. They have amazing talent in their elite team and are inspiring the next generation of volleyball players.”

The Legends Volleyball’s elite squad play their home games at Failsworth Sports Centre, with youth training at other sports venues in the region.
