Two more men charged with murder including one from Oldham after death of Mohammed Afzal in Bury

Two men have been charged with murder following the death of Mohammed Afzal.

Biryan Ak (20), of Norman Grove, Longsight and Mohammed Rayhan (19), of Chauncy Road, Failsworth appeared at Manchester Magistrates Court yesterday (Wednesday,  August 6, 2025). 

Investigators have now secured charges against three men in relation to this incident, with Abbas Hussain (19), of Bolton charged with murder and possession of a bladed article on Tuesday. 

Hussain was remanded to court before a future hearing. Two other men who were arrested have been bailed. 

Mohammed Afzal (19), known to his loved ones as Isa, died in Bury on Friday, August 1. Mohammed was attacked just before 9pm in a car park on Market Street. He sustained stab wounds and passed away later from his injuries.

Detective Chief Inspector John Charlton, from the Major Incident Team, said: “This investigation is progressing at pace and we have now charged three men in relation to Mohammed’s death. 

“Enquiries are ongoing in relation to the investigation, and Mohammed’s family continue to be supported by specialist officers. 

“Although we have secured these charges, we are still investigating the tragic circumstances that resulted in Mohammed’s death.
