Triumphant Triathletes

More than 70 youngsters took part in the Failsworth Junior Triathlon on Saturday.

In its third consecutive year, the event attracted a good mix of boys and girls aged eight to 14 years old.

Organised by Milltown Races, and in conjunction with Rochdale Triathlon Club, the day was split into two categories, with eight to 10-year-olds starting their race at 9am, while 11-14-year-olds began at 11am.

The younger ones were put through their paces with a 50m swim, followed by an 800m cycle, and completing with a 400m run. Meanwhile, the older group was subjected to longer distances, which included a 200m swim, 2km cycle, and a 1,200m run.

The event, which started at Failsworth Sports Centre, is heavily supported by British Triathlon.

Attention now turns to the Oldham Half Marathon, which returns to the town on Sunday, October 27.

Back for its seventh year, the route is regarded as pretty tough, although it does have breathtaking scenery and an electric atmosphere. With only 600 places available, it’s important to sign up as early as possible to secure your space and get your training underway.
