The Saddleworth village touched by angels

A Saddleworth village is preparing to take flight to spread Christmas joy with a host of lovingly crafted angels.

And the good-hearted knitters and crocheters in Delph are being encouraged to join the dedicated group needed to make the angels.

Organiser Kath Butterworth says: “It’s the time of year knitting needles can be heard all over the village and further afield.

“We are asking knitting and crocheting bees to complete this wonderful choir of angels by Thursday 1 December.

“The angels need to be handed in by the beginning of December to enable them to be labelled before they fly off to the Delph Elves who will return them to Delph just before the school Christmas holidays.

“The Angels seem to know when Delph school finishes and are often found on various locations around the school. Wonder where the angels will land this year and whom will find one to take home and treasure?”

The handmade angels are gifted to the community with Sue Lund acting as Chief Angel and Elf Organiser working on behalf of St Thomas Church, Delph and Delph Methodist Church.

Kath added: "A special message on the label is a lovely way of wishing everyone a peaceful Christmas and asking the finder to take the Angel home.

"Around 100 Angels make up the Delph choir and the Angels fly in on various days at various locations.

“Some angels are shy and hide, some like playing, some like shopping... Who knows where they will appear this year in Delph?

Patterns can be obtained by commenting on Kath Butterworth’s FB post or by sending her a PM. Completed  Angels can be handed in at Delph  library, St Thomas’s, Delph Methodist, Delph Post Office.
