The Radclyffe School welcomed Year 5 and 6 pupils from Horton Mill Primary School, Stanley Road Primary School and Bare Trees Primary School for a special evening celebrating improvements in reading.
The young people were nominated by their schools in recognition of remarkable progress, resilience, and enthusiasm for literacy.
Each pupil attended alongside their families for an event focused on celebrating achievement and developing confidence as readers.
The evening was led by Mel Whybrow, Associate Assistant Headteacher, with responsibility for Transition and supported by Headteacher John Cregg.
Guests took part in a range of engaging activities, including exploring The Radclyffe School’s library, listening to poetry written and performed by one of the school’s students, and watching a live Debate Club session where students discussed why reading is so important and shared their favourite books.

Pupils and families also enjoyed a performance from members of The Radclyffe School choir (pictured above) and had the opportunity to speak with students and staff about reading and life at school.
The celebration concluded with each pupil receiving a personalised certificate and choosing a book to take home.
“We were incredibly proud to welcome pupils and families from our local primary schools,” said Mel Whybrow.
“It was wonderful to see our own students supporting the event with such maturity and enthusiasm.
Evenings like this show how reading can bring people together and build confidence.”
Headteacher John Cregg added: “Developing strong reading habits at a young age opens doors to future success.
“It was a pleasure to celebrate these pupils’ achievements and to strengthen our links with local primary schools.”
Literacy remains a key priority at The Radclyffe School, and the event reflected the school’s ongoing commitment to recognising achievement and building positive partnerships across the local community.
