Snooker Legend Set To Come To Oldham

Matthew Stevens

Masters snooker champion Matthew Stevens is coming to Oldham to put local players through their paces.

Known as the Welsh Dragon, Stevens will attend the Oldham Snooker Academy on Waddington Street, next Thursday, (May 22) from 6.30pm.

Organiser, Mohammed Nisar said: “This will be the first time Stevens will be coming to us in Oldham. He lives in South Wales.

“Twelve local players will play a frame each with him and the winner will be awarded with a trophy and presentation at the end.

“We are expecting around 60 people on the night, and this will be a great opportunity for local snooker enthusiasts to meet a legend for just £10.

“There will also be a chance for meet and greet and autographs.”

Stevens has won two of the game’s triple crown events, the Masters in 2000 and the UK Championship in 2003.

He has also been a two-time runner-up in the other triple crown event, the World Snooker Championships in 2000 and 2005.

The 47-year-old reached a career high ranking of No.4 for the 2005/2006 season.

He has compiled more than 350 century breaks during his impressive career.

Prices for the event are £10 in advance or £15 on the night.
