Shed burglaries on the rise

Police are investigating a rise in shed burglaries that have occurred within the local community in the early hours of this morning (Tues).

Officer reported that the offender’s method of breaking into the sheds was consistent with sheds being damaged before the hinges and fixings were removed to gain entry. 

A number of sheds and outbuildings have been targeted, and Police Sergeant Rob Coggin for Failswoth, Hollinwood and Limeside urged local people to consider the following steps to ensure safety.  

• Check sheds, garages and outbuildings are secure. 

• Ensure valuable items such as bikes, tools and gardening equipment are properly secured. 

• Review any CCTV, doorbell camera or dashcam footage that may capture suspicious activity during the early hours. 

• Report any suspicious behaviour around gardens, driveways or rear access routes. 

Crime Prevention Tips:  

✅ Fit quality locks and additional security to sheds and gates.  

✅ Consider shed alarms and security lighting.  

✅ Mark valuable property and keep a record of serial numbers.  

✅ Store high-value items out of sight where possible.
