Saddleworth Parish Council has appointed Chair Barbara Beeley as its first Peace Champion.
It's part of its commitment to Peace, in line with its signing of the international Pledge to Peace.
The Peace Champion role will now form part of the Chair's duties, including representing the Parish Council at events such as Holocaust Memorial Day, the International Day of Peace, working with other groups in the area, and the two local councils who have also signed the Peace Pledge.
Barbara said: “It is important that we remember that peace should not be taken for granted, and must be actively protected and celebrated.
“Saddleworth is known for its active peace movement, and it is important that as a Parish Council we reflect and promote the concerns and hopes of our residents. That is why we signed this pledge, and are now actively committed to promoting peace both locally and further afield.”
