Roughyeds seal move for Bentley

Oldham have snapped up forward Valu Tanē Bentley on a deal until the end of the season.

The 23-year-old joins Oldham after making 12 appearances for Dewsbury in his inaugural Championship campaign. He left the Rams last week to take up the opportunity with the Roughyeds. 

The ex-Leigh Leopards youngster follows in the footsteps of father Valu who spent three seasons at Oldham, making 58 appearances from 2010 to 2012. 

A former member of the Wigan Warriors academy, French-born Bentley also spent time in rugby union, where he was part of the Sale Sharks youth set-up, before playing for Fylde and Sedgley Tigers and representing Lancashire in 2023. 

Bentley will be in contention to make his Roughyeds debut when Oldham takes on Barrow Raiders at Boundary Park this Sunday. 

Boss Alan Kilshaw was delighted to bring the young forward on board, having previously coached him at Keighley. 

“We’re really pleased to have brought Tanē to the club,” he said. 

"He is a great prospect, and we feel he will flourish in our environment – obviously there is a family link, too, with his father playing for the club. 

"This signing adds depth. He can play on an edge, and he can play in the middle – he is very comfortable doing that. 

"He has a rugby union background and has done really well in league over the last few years, notably while at Leigh reserves last year, where he was one of their standout performers.”
