A ten-day road closure on the main route towards Oldham town centre could cause significant disruption.
The A62 into Oldham will be shut from junction 22 of the M60 at Hollinwood, up to the junction with Drury Lane, from January 30 due to ‘essential’ repair works.
Motorists will have to take alternative routes along Hollins Road or Broadway while United Utilities carry out sewer repairs. Oldham Council says it is ‘working closely’ with the water company and with National Highways to ‘keep disruption to a minimum’.
A spokesperson for the council said: “From Friday 30th January to Sunday 8th February, the A62 will be closed to traffic heading towards Oldham between Junction 22 of the M60 and the Drury Lane junction.
“United Utilities is carrying out the work and is working closely with National Highways and Oldham Council to keep disruption to a minimum. Thanks for your patience while these important repairs are completed.”
The heavily used road is often congested during peak times, and the closures are likely to cause traffic jams and displace congestion to other areas. Signs have been placed along Oldham Road ahead of the repairs, and diversions will be in place.
In a statement, the company added: “United Utilities would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused whilst these essential works take place.”
