A Royton retirement home is looking for funds to help raise more awareness about men’s mental health.
Residents at Throstle Court, a retirement housing complex, on Middleton Road, are creating a musical heroes’ calendar to raise funds for Andy’s Man Club.
They will each dress up as different musical icons including Freddie Mercury, Amy Winehouse, Dolly Parton and more for each of the 12 months of the year.
To raise funds to print the calendar they are running a raffle and are looking for raffle prizes as well as any support with photography.
Suzanne Delaney, local housing manager for housing21, who is leading the charity campaign, said: “We are hoping to print around 100 calendars for Andy’s Man Club and we need as much help as possible, if people can help us with raffles that will be great.
“The residents will be dressing up as icons and we need funds for the dressing. We have been kindly given raffles by Oldham Athletic, The Head Spa in Manchester and others but we need more.
“I have spoken to Andy’s Man Club, and I want to help them by raising more awareness about men’s mental health as it’s something that's not openly discussed, and this is to help them to expand their group into other areas.”
Suzanne added: “This is something that is very close to my heart as I have sons too. Suicide rate among men is high and any money raised will go to them.”
