Oldham Mayor Councillor Pam Byrne described a retiring parish council colleague as a ‘lifeline” to local government circles.
Pam was speaking after Saddleworth parish council's lower hall was packed with family, friends of Hazel Dutton, staff, parish councillors past and present and Charity team to say farewell to Hazel, retiring after 30 years of providing a top-notch service to the Parish Council, the wider community as Deputy Clerk.
Mayor Pam said: ”Hazel had phone numbers for everyone over the decades. Protocol was vital in Hazel’s world, and she is one of the best."
Others described her as an oracle of information, adding that Hazel was an absolute legend who will be missed, but wished her an happy retirement
Colleagues also said they hoped she will still visit them regularly and raised a glass describing her as 'one of Saddleworth’s unsung heroes'.
