Police warn residents over car-breaking thieves

Greater Manchester Police is urging residents to remain vigilant following a spate of vehicle break-ins in the Coldhurst area.

The recent incidents have been reported on Coldhurst Street, Dunbar Street, Ramsden Close, Bankside Close, Neville Street, Main Road, Denmark Way, Westbourne Street and Brierley Walk.  

The majority of offences involved theft from motor vehicles, with additional reports of vehicle interference, vehicle damage, and a hire vehicle not being returned. 

PCSO Martin Smith from the Central Neighbourhood  Team, Coldhurst and Westwood, has issued the following advice on how to protect your vehicle: 

✅ Always lock your vehicle, even when parked outside your home. 

✅ Remove all valuables from sight, including bags, tools, mobile phones, and sat navs. 

✅ Ensure windows and sunroofs are fully closed. 

✅ Consider using additional security devices such as steering wheel locks, alarms, or tracking devices. 

✅ Park in well-lit areas where possible. 

✅ Report any suspicious activity immediately. See Something? Say Something 

If you witness suspicious behaviour around vehicles or believe someone is attempting to gain access to a vehicle, report it to the police on 101 (non emergency), 999 if a crime is in progress.
