Residents are being urged to be extra vigilant of unexpected callers offering roofing, chimney, guttering or other home repair services.
These fraudsters often target households by claiming urgent damage to a roof or chimney needs immediate action.
The Chadderton Central Neighbourhood Team said rogue traders may use pressure tactics to persuade people to agree to work on the spot and are asking residents to consider the following:
✅ Always ask for photographic ID.
✅ Take your time and never feel pressured into making a decision.
✅ Request written quotations and check reviews or references.
✅ Use reputable, trusted traders.
✅ Do not allow anyone onto your roof or begin work without proper checks.
Officers offered the advice on their Bee in the Loop page and stressed if you're unsure about a caller, do not let them into your home and consider speaking to a family member, neighbour or friend before agreeing to any work. People are urged to share this message with elderly or vulnerable neighbours who may be more likely to be targeted.
If you feel threatened or believe a crime is taking place, contact Greater Manchester Police on 101, or 999 in an emergency.
