Police are urging drivers to take extra precautions after a series of vehicle break-ins – despite earlier warnings to remain vigilant.
The Coldhurst & Westwood Neighbourhood Policing Team said several cars were targeted in and around large car parks at the Royal Oldham Hospital and the Premier Inn on Chadderton Way.
PCSO Martin Smith said there were also a couple of incidents at the Audi dealership on Chadderton Way where cars were smashed into with several parts being stolen from each of the vehicles.
He said: “We want our community to be safe and secure from crime and we recommend not leaving any items on show in your vehicles when parked up in public areas as it attracts criminals towards your vehicle even if its relatively unexpensive items such as coats and carrier bags, as criminals will want to break in on the off chance there’s money or other valuables hidden inside.
“Check all your cars are locked and the keys are kept safe and if possible, put a steering lock on, as it will deter thieves from actually taking your vehicle.”
PCSO Smith added: “On a Lighter note, our friends at the Wonderlust Bistro located at the junction of West End Street and Library Lane are holding a Green Horizons Day on August 12, 5pm – 9pm which is set up to help the rehabilitation and support of young offenders and other members of society that need help and opportunities to live better lives.
I’ve attached their poster advertising the event which some of our team will be attending to offer advice and answer questions from the public.”
