Police arrested a man on an e-bike after he was allegedly caught speeding and riding without a valid licence during patrols in the Oldham Town Centre yesterday (Tues).
Officers were in the area as part of the Home Office Safe 4 Summer initiative, which is aimed at detecting and deterring anti-social behaviour (ASB) and engaging with the local community.
A group of people were spoken to and moved on for causing anti-social behaviour in a public place, and checks were undertaken for licencing and e-bikes.
One e-bike was seized after officers discovered it had a maximum speed of 38mph, and the rider had no valid licence and insurance.
Electrically assisted pedal cycles (EAPC) are e-bikes that have pedals, a continuous power output of no more than 250 watts and can operate at a maximum speed of 15.5mph.
All e-bikes that do not fall into this criteria must have valid tax, insurance and the driver must have a licence.
A spokesperson for Oldham police said: “If you see your local officers out and about, please don’t hesitate to come for a chat or share any concerns you have.”
