People encouraged to visit parks as part of Love Parks Week

Alexandra Park, Oldham.

Oldham Council is encouraging residents to make the most of Oldham’s green spaces as part of Love Parks Week, which began on Friday, July 24 and runs until August 2.

The campaign, organised by Keep Britain Tidy, celebrates parks and green spaces, the people who care for them, and the benefits they bring to communities.

Whether you're looking for family fun, a new adventure, a place to exercise or simply somewhere to relax, Oldham's 32 parks and green spaces offer something for everyone.

Love Parks Week is a great opportunity to visit a park you've never explored before.

Why not take a trip to Alexandra Park, enjoy the woodland trails and panoramic views at Tandle Hill Country Park, or discover the wildlife at Daisy Nook Country Park?

With so many green spaces across the borough, residents may be surprised by what they find on their doorstep.

Parks are ideal places to improve physical and mental wellbeing.

Oldham has a range of outdoor gyms designed for all ages and abilities. Each gym offers different equipment to help you stay fit and have fun at the same time.

Some gyms are laid out as fitness trails that wind through the parks and green spaces, perfect for combining exercise with a scenic walk or jog. Others are set up as formal workout areas with a variety of equipment to target strength, balance, and cardio fitness.

The Summer holidays are the perfect time for families to head outdoors and enjoy Oldham’s parks. With playgrounds, open spaces and plenty of spots for a family picnic, local parks provide a free day out on your doorstep.

Uppermill and Alexandra Park also host Junior Parkruns every Sunday.

Parks are a haven for both your physical and mental wellbeing. Spending time in them offers opportunities for social connection and stress reduction through a simple dose of nature.

Look out for birds, discover colourful wildflowers, or simply switch off from screens and enjoy some peace.

Oldham’s parks are more than just green spaces – they’re places where communities come together. Throughout the year, parks across the borough host a variety of activities and events.

Events provide a great opportunity to meet new people, get active, learn new skills, and enjoy everything local parks have to offer.

Darren McGrattan, Assistant Director, Waste, Cleansing and Greenspace at Oldham Council, said:  "Love Parks Week is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the wonderful green spaces we have across Oldham.

“We are home to some of the very best parks and green spaces in Greater Manchester, and we're incredibly fortunate to have such a diverse range of beautiful outdoor spaces right on our doorstep.

“I would encourage residents to get outside this summer, visit somewhere new and discover everything our parks have to offer.”
