Police in Derker arrested a teenager on a bike after a chase which led to the discovery of £20,000 worth of suspected cannabis.
Officers from the Operation Vulcan team spotted the 17-year-old boy acting suspicioulsy at around 1.50pm on Friday.
The teenager was stopped and detained following a brief chase when shortly after, officers discovered wraps of brown and white powder. The suspect was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply.
The offender’s house was then searched, with a further quantity of suspected class B drugs – namely cannabis – subsequently being discovered. The haul has an estimated street valuation of approximately £20,000.
Two further arrests at the property followed, with a man, aged 38, and a woman, aged 35, being arrested on suspicion of drugs offences.
Several phones and more than £1,000 in unaccounted cash were also seized. In addition, other drugs paraphernalia was discovered.
The three arrested individuals have since been released on bail pending further enquiries.
The trio are the latest in a list of more than one hundred people who have been arrested since Operation Vulcan’s launch in the area in March.
The ongoing problem-solving initiative, which has already scored countless successes in Cheetham Hill and Piccadilly Gardens, has seen tens of thousands of pounds of controlled substances seized in addition to around £30,000 in suspect criminal cash.
This has also seen officers working to secure 13 property possession orders and 22 community behaviour orders, directly targeted at those involved in criminal activities and anti-social behaviour in the area.
Inspector Dan Cullum, from GMP’s Vulcan team, said: “This latest success shows the effectiveness of proactive policing efforts in Derker, and the wider work that can unravel from a single search.
“With 110 arrests already in the area since March, Vulcan’s crime-smashing operation and work with partners is continuing to make Derker a safer area, with criminals never allowed to rest and those in genuine need being supported wherever possible.
“We would encourage anyone with any issues in the area to get in touch with us – we are dedicated to taking criminality out of the area and supporting your community however we can.”
