Oldham Mountain Rescue Team assist fire service tackling moorland wildfires

Oldham Mountain Rescue Team help fire service at Dovestone and Swineshaw.

With the warm, dry and increasingly windy conditions early on Saturday, the ongoing wildfires at Dovestone and Swineshaw intensified, producing heavy smoke and rapidly spreading fire fronts.

Oldham Mountain Rescue Team was tasked with supporting Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) and the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB), providing navigational support and medical cover for those working on the incident.

On Sunday, the team returned to assist by mapping the burn area and hot spots following Saturday's flare-up, helping to build a clearer picture of the fire's impact.

The team remains on standby to support the ongoing firefighting action.

Currently, OMRT are fundraising to replace their ageing Land Rovers, which enables them to transport rescuers and vital equipment across terrain that other vehicles simply can't reach.

Donations can be made for the Vehicle Fundraiser via JustGiving: https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/omrtvehiclesfundraiser

Every donation, no matter the size, helps the team to respond when people need them most.
