A Section 60 and 60AA has been authorised in Newton Heath and Miles Platting areas following reports of knifepoint robberies in the area on Saturday evening.
Under a Section 60, officers have extra powers to stop and search people in the area defined above within the timeframe.
A Section 60AA authority allows police to require people to remove face coverings used to disguise or conceal their appearance.
The authority was granted at 7pm last night (Saturday, September 6, 2025), and will run until 7pm tonight (Sunday, September 7, 2025).
The temporary powers have come into enforcement following reports of knifepoint robberies in the area on Saturday evening.
It is believed that victims were being targeted for their pedal bikes. No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing.
The enforcement of the S60 has been granted as part of police response to keeping the community safe and preventing further incidents taking place. Officers will be increasing patrols in the area over the coming days.
Chief Inspector Mike Russell, from GMP's City of Manchester district, said: “We have implemented this order due to reports of robberies in the area – this enforcement gives officers further powers to take action to proactively stop-search people.
“The order runs until tonight and you will notice an extra police presence in the area. If you have any concerns about anything, please do speak to an officer.
