Vintage cars, live entertainment and traditional performances took over Oldham town centre for a free celebration of all things retro on Saturday.
Local shoppers and families flocked to Nostalgic Oldham, an annual event packed with free activities and performances, combining traditions, childhood memories and family fun.
At the heart of the celebrations was the return of the Big Yellow Bus in Parliament Square, which became a hub of activity throughout the day. Visitors enjoyed circus performances, live music and strolling street entertainment.
Elsewhere, there were performances and activities from Troupe Dance, Raggle Taggle Arts, Betty Brown Bags and Oldham Theatre Workshop, alongside a family craft workshop delivered by Oldham Archives. Also in attendance was Oldham Athletic Chairman Frank Rothwell showcasing his unique vehicles.
Cycling fans were given a chance to visit the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift tent, see the prestigious race trophy and meet the people involved in bringing the race to Oldham, while finding out more about the world-famous event's visit to the borough in summer 2027.
Subnum Hariff-Khan, Head of Libraries and Heritage and Arts, at Oldham Council, said: "Nostalgic Oldham is a chance to celebrate everything that makes our borough special, from our history and traditions to the people and communities that shape Oldham today.
"As Greater Manchester Town of Culture, we're proud to bring events like this to the town centre."
Oldham police hailed the event as huge success. On their Facebook page, a spokesperson said: “We recently attended the Oldham Nostalgic Event, where officers engaged with the community throughout the day, listening to concerns and keeping people safe.
“Being visible and approachable at events encourages open conversations, and gain a better understanding of the issues that matter most to the local people. Strong communities and effective policing go hand in hand and it was encouraging to see residents of all ages come together to celebrate what makes Oldham unique.
“Thank you to everyone who attended and helped make the event such a success. We look forward to continuing to work alongside our communities and supporting future events that bring people together.”
