New bins to include QR code to make recycling easier

New bins to inlcude QR codes.

Oldham Council is set to introduce a helpful new feature on household bins across the borough.

As part of an upcoming order with a new bin supplier, the council is planning to include a QR code on the front of each bin.

The QR code will link directly to the council’s rubbish and recycling web page: www.oldham.gov.uk/info/200281/rubbish_and_recycling

Residents will be able to use the code to quickly:

  • Report a missed bin collection

  • Check which rubbish goes in which bin

  • Find out their collection schedule

  • Request an assisted collection

The move aims to make it quicker and easier for residents to get the help they need.

Councillor Elaine Taylor, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, said: "This is a small but practical change that will make a real difference.

“Most people have smartphones these days, so adding a QR code means residents can get straight to the right page without having to search for it.

“It’s all about making things simpler and more convenient for our residents."

The council is currently finalising the order with the supplier and bins featuring the QR code will start to appear later this year.
