Thirty combined mountain rescue team members were called to Blackstone Edge following reports a walker had fallen from rocks near the trig point on Sunday afternoon.
Initially, 10 Oldham Mountain Rescue Team members quickly mobilised from the White House Pub and made their way along the Pennine Way to the casualty.
On arrival, they found a family of four who had been enjoying the views when one member of the group slipped from the rocks, sustaining a painful ankle injury.
The team's medic assessed the casualty, administered pain relief, and immobilised the injured ankle with a splint before they were carefully loaded onto a stretcher.
While treatment was underway, additional OMRT members and 20 colleagues from Calder Valley Search and Rescue Team (CVSRT) made their way to the scene in preparation for the challenging stretcher carry.
The casualty was carried over uneven, rugged, and rocky terrain down the hill reaching an even track towards a waiting team 4×4 Land Rover, approximately one kilometer away.
The casualty was then transported by Land Rover to the roadside at the White House, where they were transferred into the care of the Northwest Ambulance Service.
The remaining family members were then given a lift back to their vehicle at Windy Hill.
An OMRT spokesperson said: “We wish the casualty a speedy recovery and would like to thank Calder Valley Search and Rescue Team (CVSRT) for their assistance and support.”
The incident duration lasted 3.5 hours.
OMRT are currently fundraising to replace their ageing Land Rovers, which enables them to transport rescuers and vital equipment across terrain that other vehicles simply can't reach.
