Police in Failsworth made their presence known as they issued fines to those using the Metrolink trams without a ticket.
People boarding the tram towards Manchester had to go through the knife arch as a condition of travel on the network this afternoon.
Metrolink staff also conducted ticket checks and issued fines to those without tickets. Officers were able to engage with passengers and explain the important role knife arches play in tackling and preventing violent crimes on the Metrolink lines.
A spokesperson for Failsworth police said: “Positive feedback was received by many people supporting the initiative and wanting to see it more often, with them feeling safer travelling knowing this is in use."
