Man jailed following discovery of drug operation and £150,000 in cash

Behind bars . . . Matthew Harrison.

A 52-year-old man has been locked up for 12 years after police uncovered a large-scale drug operation linked to him.

Matthew Harrison of Lees New Road, Oldham, was sentenced following a hearing at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court on Thursday, February 26, 2026.

He pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply class B drugs (cannabis), possession of class A drugs (MDMA) and money laundering at a previous hearing.

The court heard how on Thursday, September 18, 2025, while driving along Middleton Road in Oldham at around 2:35pm, officers conducted a stop on a black BMW. The driver was identified as Harrison.

Harrison was detained and searched and inside the vehicle a substantial quantity of suspected cannabis, cocaine, and MDMA tablets were found.

As a result, Harrison was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply class A and class B drugs.

The drugs were forensically tested and found to be 6kg of cannabis, approximately 1,000 MDMA tablets and 55g of cocaine.

While in custody, a search was conducted at Harrison’s home address.

During the search, officers discovered a large sum of cash hidden underneath the drawers in the bedside cabinets, which was counted and found to total £156,000. A Rolex-branded watch, several paintings, and two cash-counting machines were also seized.

Detective Constable Andy Pearson, from the Oldham Challenger team, said: “This sentencing reflects the seriousness of Harrison’s actions and the harm that drug supply brings to our communities.

“He was found in possession of significant quantities of cannabis and MDMA, along with cash linked to money laundering. Harrison was clearly operating to profit from the exploitation and misery caused by illegal drugs.

“Our officers work tirelessly to identify and disrupt those who believe they can deal drugs in our area without consequence. I hope this result reassures the public that we are committed to removing harmful substances from our streets and bringing offenders before the courts.

“Our message is simple: if you choose to engage in drug supply or criminal financial activity, we will identify you, we will take action, and you will be held accountable.

“Anyone who has concerns about drug dealing in their local area can contact us via 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, if you wish to remain anonymous.”
