Man charged with three sexual assaults in Chadderton

A man has been charged in connection with three sexual assaults in Oldham.

On Monday (20 February), three women reported that they had been sexually assaulted earlier that day in Chadderton.

Eric Mwangi, 32, of no fixed abode, has been charged with three offences in connection with these assaults. 

He has been remanded in custody until his next court appearance at Tameside Magistrates' Court on Thursday (23 February). 

Superintendent Phil Hutchinson, of GMP's Oldham Division, said: “These incidents will have understandably caused concern in the wider community, and I would like to reassure the public that GMP takes reports of this nature very seriously and that the victims continue to be supported by specialist officers.

“I am pleased that the meticulous investigation by officers from Oldham CID and the quick work of dedicated GMP officers have secured a rapid arrest and charge in relation to this case.

“I am however aware of speculation on social media which is circulating incorrect information about this case, in particular speculation that the person responsible resides in Oldham, enquiries suggest this is incorrect. I am therefore appealing to the community to please refrain from speculation online which could potentially jeopardise our investigation.

“The most important thing for all of us in Oldham is the safety of everyone in our communities.

“Our investigation is progressing at pace, and it’s important that anyone with relevant information shares it with the police."
