A loan shark and her enforcer have been jailed following a brutal assault in Oldham that led to the death of a vulnerable man.
A loan shark and her enforcer have been jailed following a brutal assault in Oldham that led to the death of a vulnerable man.
Jemma Marshall and Jason Wadsworth, both 37 and from Shaw, attacked Martin Shaw, 45, as he walked home from a local shop on 10 September 2023.
The pair forced Mr Shaw into a car and repeatedly punched him, causing multiple broken ribs and a ruptured spleen. He collapsed later that evening and was taken to Royal Oldham Hospital, where he sadly died eight weeks later.
The court heard that Marshall preyed on vulnerable people struggling with drug or alcohol addiction, claiming they owed her money. Wadsworth acted as her enforcer, using intimidation and violence to back up her demands.
Marshall showed no remorse after the attack, complaining about blood inside her car. Both denied responsibility but were found guilty of manslaughter by a jury.
📍 At Manchester Crown Court:
• Marshall was jailed for 4 years and 5 months
• Wadsworth received 8 years and 6 months
Detective Chief Inspector Neil Higginson said the attack was “terrifying, brutal and truly vile” and welcomed the sentences.
