Intensive neighbourhood policing week sees 185 arrests

Police make a number of arrests to combat crime.

Greater Manchester Police has made 185 arrests during a recent national week of action and launched a speedwatch programme in Saddleworth and Lees.

Neighbourhood Policing Week 2025, which started on Monday, June 23, saw forces across the country highlight and celebrate the vital work being done to tackle crime.

The week has seen a number of local activities including:

  • Launching a speedwatch programme in Saddleworth and Lees - vital for tackling anti-social road use
  • Patrols in Wigan Town Centre and Scholes keeping communities safe

  • Salford officers visiting Kids Corner Nursery to speak to children during their ‘people who help us’ programme

Throughout this week and beyond, officers have tackled concerns and issues raised by the communities - including burglaries, vehicle crime, and anti-social behaviour.

Results from the week saw:

  • 185 arrests

  • 42 cars/ vans seized

  • 12 bikes seized

  • 34 warrants executed

  • 56 licensing and premises checks

  • 153 engagement events

Officers will be utilising the recent launch of the Greater Manchester partner's Home Office ‘Safer Streets Summer Initiative’ which is aimed at reducing crime across town centres and communities in the region.

The initiative - known locally as Safe4Summer – is part of the Government’s mission to restore and strengthen local policing in communities and reduce or prevent anti-social behaviour (ASB).

Assistant Chief Constable Matt Boyle, GMP’s Lead for Local Policing said: “Our neighbourhood teams across the force carried out some fantastic work during the national week of action. From cracking down on serious and organised crime, and targeting shoplifters, to supporting our communities during bike marking events and visits to nurseries and schools.

“I am incredibly proud of the neighbourhood team we have who strive to create a visible presence across Greater Manchester. This activity will continue as we focus on our Safe4Summer initiative which will show a greater visibility of Greater Manchester Police (GMP) officers and partners as we work together across crime hot spot areas.

“Thank you to our communities who supported us this week, and continue to support us by submitting intelligence, engaging with us at community events and even volunteering during schemes such as our Community Speedwatch.

“Your help and support goes a long way in ensuring we keep Greater Manchester safe for our communities.”
