Historic chippy Levers makes a splash in new home in Spindles

The beloved chip shop with a proud history has got off to a flying start after reopening in a new location.

Levers Fish and Chips, which has been serving the community of Oldham for 35 years, officially opened the doors to their vibrant new space opposite the Home Bargains store in the Spindles at Market Place. 

The move has marked an exciting new chapter for the much-loved business, owned by George Gabrilatsou and Savvas Eleftheriou, which has been part of local life for decades after opening at Tommyfield Market in 1991. 

They have brought with them the blue plaque from Tommyfield Market (pictured below), commemorating Oldham as the birthplace of the fish and chip shop since around 1860. 

Since the official launch last week, locals have been turning out in force to welcome the popular shop back, proving it remains the catch of the day for generations of families. 

George said: "We're absolutely delighted with the response. The support we've received has been incredible and it's been fantastic to see so many familiar faces, as well as new customers, coming through the doors." 

Savvas said: "This business has been part of the community for many years and moving to a new home is a big step. We couldn't have asked for a better start and we're excited about what the future holds." 

The Levers reopening comes at an exciting time for The Spindles and the wider town centre, with the recently opened market bringing renewed energy as part of a once-in-a-generation £450million town centre investment, attracting visitors and helping to drive increased footfall. 

Cards Direct and North West have also recently joined the Spindles, strengthening the variety of retailers available to shoppers, while established brands H. Samuel, Daniel Christian Menswear and Lloyds Bank have all completed major refurbishments.
