A historic bell at Millgate Arts Centre is chiming across the community again after several years of silence.
The bell linked to an illuminated clock, chimes on the hour from 7am to 10pm and has been given thumbs up by locals after being mothballed a few years ago after a complaint about noise.
Ian Shepherd, spokesperson for the Arts Centre, said: "After several years gathering dust, we have received funding to service the clock and got it running again. The Cumbria Clock Company engineer visited today.
“Chimes will operate from 7am until 10pm only, to comply with environmental health requirements.
And to enhance the clocks presence, ,new LED backlighting has been fitted behind the clock face. “
“My sincere thanks to Cllr Pam Byrne for supporting my efforts to get this resolved.
