English professional snooker player Gary Wilson thrilled fans this week at the Oldham Snooker Academy, producing a stunning display that included three century breaks.
The 40-year-old from Wallsend in North Tyneside, Tyne and Wear, took centre stage at the club’s latest snooker exhibition held at the Waddington Street venue.
Noted for his cue ball control and break-building ability, Wilson has won three ranking titles, the Scottish Open in 2022 and 2023, and the 2024 Welsh Open.
He was also runner-up at the 2015 China Open and the 2021 British Open, as well as reaching the semi-final of the 2019 World Championship as a qualifier.
Event organiser, Mohammed Nisar said: “The event was brilliant. An absolute steal at £10 to watch a Top 15 player. He scored three century breaks which was outstanding.”
The sun is out and it finally feels like spring in Oldham town centre. Nothing can shake people’s good moods – as workers sunbathe on street benches, a man shares a joke with two bobbies patrolling on horseback, and shoppers shrug out of their puffer coats like butterflies coming out of cocoons.
One of Greater Manchester's largest Hindu temples transformed Oldham's streets this week to mark Holi, the Hindu Festival of Colours, which was celebrated globally on March 4.
Latics’ last visit to Prenton Park was memorable for lots of reasons. In beating Tranmere Rovers in the FA Cup 1st Round in November 2024, Latics were signalling unambiguous intent and capability in what became the season when they won promotion out of the National League.
