Find your voice - change your life by joining local vocals in Oldham

Local Vocals are looking forward to the start of their new term, fresh from the success of their recent high-profile performances.

The community choir, established in 2021 by Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA) graduate Laura Bennett-Gornall, runs 44 other choirs across the North of England and has raised over £80k for local charities since they formed. 

Local Vocals believe everyone can and should sing and are inviting people to experience the joy of singing and meeting new people in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. If you’re ready to find your voice and do something that will benefit your physical and mental wellbeing, now is the time to find out how you can do that. 

Their Oldham choir meets weekly on Tuesdays from 7.30pm to 9pm at the Crossley Centre and is hosted by choir leader Phil. 

Members learn uplifting songs in four-part harmony, meet other choir members, and can opt into the choir's upcoming performance opportunities, supporting their charitable goals.  

By joining, members can not only have fun singing but also contribute to important causes in the community. 

The choir is open to anyone over 16, with no auditions, previous singing experience or ability to read music required.  

If you love music and singing, that’s all you need. You don’t need to take their word for it though! This is what one of their choir members recently said, “I never thought I’d join a choir -thought it was just for people with perfect voices, but Local Vocals changed that!  

It’s a warm, fun community where everyone’s welcome and you don’t need a great voice to enjoy yourself. I’m so glad I gave it a go!” 

The choir performs a diverse range of songs by artists such as Oasis, Adele, Take That, Fleetwood Mac, Queen, Stevie Wonder, Justin Timberlake, Human League and many more, with unique arrangements and exciting performance opportunities at festivals, stadiums, in cathedrals and at community events. Their recent shows performed at the Bridgewater Hall in Manchester were hosted by Sue Devaney and played to two audiences of eighteen hundred people, raising over £23,000 for North West Cancer Research.
