Carried on a golden raft of sunshine, a unique new event captured the hearts of hundreds of visitors to Saddleworth Women’s and Clog first-ever Garland Day staged in Uppermill on Saturday.
With a mesmerizing set of dances, the 25 ladies in stunning hand fashioned headdresses, backed by eight musicians, gave show stopping performances.
They were supported by the famous Saddleworth Morris Men and Silkstone Green, and Thieving Magpies.
And a highlight was introducing the ladies side newest member, Rowan the Hare, an impressive hand-built ‘mascot’ joining the garland-lead procession.
The garlands would have been an annual event in years gone by and the ladies were pleased to revive this custom for folk to enjoy today and in future years.

Thanks to Global Grooves - Manchester at The Vale for helping us release Rowan the hare, the new member of the side, and big thanks to lead artist Rowan Taylor.
And thank you to the visiting (and local) Morris sides for being a part of this very first #SaddleworthGarlandDay !
A new tradition for Saddleworth, and one that will hopefully be around for many years to come.
