FCHO issues notices seeking possession of its properties following allegations of criminality

FCHO takes action against those taking part in ASB along with police.

First Choice Homes Oldham (FCHO) recently delivered more notices seeking possession of its properties following alleged criminality uncovered by the Operation Vulcan crackdown in Derker.

The housing association’s anti-social behaviour (ASB) team and police officers went to Spring Street in Waterhead to deliver a notice seeking possession of a home due to allegations of supplying class A drugs.

Another notice was delivered to an address in Derwent Walk, Waterhead, relating to allegations of assault, robbery and false imprisonment.

In addition, a letter warning of legal action was delivered to an address in Capesthorne Drive, Shaw, relating to the supply of class A drugs.

So far, a total of 25 notices seeking possession of properties have been issued by FCHO since Vulcan started 12 months ago.

Another 31 customers have been issued with tenancy warning letters over allegations of criminality.

“FCHO has now been issuing notices of seeking possession to those involved in criminality at a rate of about two a month since Operation Vulcan began,” said FCHO chief executive Mark Gifford.

“It is clear demonstration that we continue to work closely with GMP on Operation Vulcan and we will not tolerate the use of our properties for drug dealing and violence.

“Ultimately it is up to a court to decide if we can evict these people, but FCHO will be working with GMP and others to ensure compelling evidence is given to the court so it can make an informed decision.”

He added: ““Eviction is always a last resort for FCHO and there is support available for those who need it. However, the message here is crystal clear: if you live in an FCHO property and are undertaking criminal activity or ASB you run a grave risk of losing your home.”

Other new possession notices issued, all relating to drug supply, include properties in Bessemer Way, Coldhurst, Trajan House, Burnley Street, Walshaw Street, Vale Drive, Littlemoor House, Littlemoor and Bronte Close, Sholver. These have either been delivered or will be shortly.
