The A670 High Street near Ryefields Drive was closed off to traffic as the incident prompted a significant presence of firefighters, police officers, and paramedics, including an air ambulance deployed at the Uppermill Cricket Club area.
A woman has been transported to the hospital following an incident where her vehicle breached a wall and entered a river in Uppermill.
Images circulating on social media depicted the extensive response effort, with numerous vehicles lining the street.
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “Just before 5.30pm on Monday, February 26, two fire engines from Oldham and Mossley fire station, along with the Technical Response Unit from Ashton, were called to reports of a car driving into the river on Ryefields Drive, Uppermill.
“Crews arrived quickly at the scene. A woman who was in the vehicle was assessed at the scene by colleagues from North West Ambulance Service. Firefighters worked with colleagues from North West Ambulance service to establish a safe route for the woman to be transported to the ambulance before she was taken to hospital.
“Firefighters were in attendance for around two hours.”
