A brass band billing itself as a band with a difference is seeking a new musical director.
Dobcross Brass Monkeys was originally set up as an adult training band, giving adults the opportunity to learn a brass instrument.
But under the leadership of popular Phil Cumberworth, the band has grown and developed over the years and has a mix of people who learned with the band and more experienced players.
Now they are a 26-piece, non-contesting 4th section band, apart from taking part in the Whit Friday contests.
They perform four, well-supported concerts a year and a range of other band jobs including the legendary Remembrance Sunday memorial service at Pots and Pans.
A highlight for the Brass Monkeys was playing along with Dobcross Silver Band at the Menin Gate in Ypres and recently in a massed band with the Dobcross Youth Band and the Silver Band at their 150th anniversary concert.
Sadly Phil has decided to hang up his baton after 18 years as the Brass Monkeys dedicated MD, and they are now seeking a replacement.
In an advertisement they say they are seeking “someone with Energy, Creativity, Musical flair who can inspire, teach, and challenge us to be our best.”
The band meets at Dobcross Band Club, Platt Lane OL3 5AD Monday 18:45 - 19:45 and Thursday 19:00 - 21:00.
And they add: "If you think you could lead the Brass Monkeys and fancy joining a group that plays with passion (and sometimes in fancy dress), we'd love to hear from you!”
