This picture taken by Saddleworth wildlife champion Greg Barrett shows the concerns over wildlife threatened by indiscriminate blazes.
Gregg, a TESCO champion, was making observations at Black Hill near the Digley Reservoir near Holmfirth when he first saw the blaze and alerted the fire brigade last night.
“It was the first warm day of the year,” he said. “I’m just hoping that we won’t be facing worse things to come as the year progresses. The moors are teeming with wildlife. Massive involvement with birds and it’s breeding time too. Crucial to the moors survival.”
